the first 30.....

How l lost the weight…..

1. It has not been easy. As a matter of fact, it hasn’t been that fun at times. But it was something that I had to do especially when your doctor tells you that you need to lose some weight or you may be in trouble, you deal with it. I want to be here for my kids as they are growing up. If I’m unhealthy or dead it won’t happen that way. I’ll be sick and can’t play or run or do anything at all.

2. Get up and go. I go to the gym early at least 5-7 days of the week. Most days I’m up at 5 am. I know me. I ain’t going in the afternoon to do anything unless I absolutely have to get it done in the afternoon. It’s easy to find something else to do instead of going to the gym. It was just weights and spin, and now I have added running. Hopefully, I can keep losing.

3. Stop buying big clothes. I had a pair of 36 waist pants. I gave them away since they were so big. Now I can wear pants that I haven’t worn in years. I have shirts that I can wear now as well. A lot of my clothes are way too big.

4. Eat. I try to eat 6 times a day. And I try to eat as healthy as possible. Fruit, vegetables, lean meats (turkey/chicken), a little red meat, and protein shakes. I’m hungry all the time. ALL THE TIME. I don’t think I’m getting enough calories so I will need to eat more, but so far it has worked.

5. Say no when I feel like saying no and say yes when I feel like saying yes. If I want a cookie, I’m going to eat a cookie. Same for burgers, cake, and donuts. If I want it I eat it, just not a lot of it. This way I’m not trying to fight my urges all time. It’s hard to say, “I’m never going to eat cookies again.” Guess what, I’m going to eat a cookie, just not a whole pack of them. Moderation is the key.

6. Tell your family to not be nice to you. I wish my wife would have told me, “Dang, you big dude!” Instead of not telling me at all. Amaya told me I was pretty big a few times, but I didn’t listen. I looked at last year’s softball team picture. It was pretty gross. I look like a big Easter peanut M & M. Bright yellow!!!

7. Believe in yourself. Know that it will take some TIME to lose the weight. Longer than you think. Longer than they tell you on any commercial. 2 pounds a week is good. Don’t look for huge gains because you will be disappointed. That’s been my problem for years. I wanted it to happen too fast. Now I know it won’t happen quickly. I have 6 months to lose 30 pounds. That is my final & ultimate goal.

8. If you miss a day, you miss. Get over it. Life gets in the way. Days will be missed. Try to get back to it the very next day possible. That’s what I did. I did get mad at myself, but I did the best that I could at that moment. All you can do is your best.
